This directory is a public-source research tool. We have not conducted a standardized hands-on performance test. Here is exactly what the labels mean.
1. Review official sources
We prioritize provider websites, documentation, published pricing, and official store listings. Each reviewed listing links to its source and records its review date. We query the US Apple catalog and match Google Play publishers, domains, and policy links; similarly named third-party apps are excluded. A missing catalog record is an observed availability result, not proof of a removal date or reason. A source-reviewed label only applies to the described public information; it does not verify every field.
2. Keep unknowns visible
An unavailable field stays “Not verified.” Filter strength, NSFW support, regional app availability, and model details are not guessed. Where shown, ratings are real US App Store or Google Play snapshots, with their source, count, and review date. They are not our editorial scores and are not normalized across stores. We omit aggregateRating schema.
3. Organize by intent
Character discovery, creative roleplay, AI companions, and image/video creation are editorial research categories. GenBunny has no live chat yet and is not counted as a direct chat alternative. Directory order is editorial; it is not a quality leaderboard. Comparison pairs are curated starting points, with no claim of verified search volume.
4. Refresh with evidence
Our intended cadence is monthly, with additional edits when reliable source changes are identified. Updates require editing the shared data and rebuilding the site; no automatic monitoring or live verification is implied. The changes page records actual editorial changes.
5. Check before committing
Free allowances, prices, and regional store listings can change. Review current provider terms before signing up. AI characters are fictional systems, and this directory is intended for adults 18 and older.
